6. Reach for the Sun

📅: 1/18/2013

Retrospective Note 2020: Lebanon Trail wasn’t built just yet, but that’s where it stands now, so that’s where I’m marking it. Before, it was just an unnamed field that I loved to take walks on. I was sad about them building over it at first, but there’s still tons of field to walk on, as well as the walking trail, so it wasn’t that bad after all. In fact, the High School is beautiful to look at over the horizon. I frequent this area often.

7. BioShock Infinite Alternate Box Art

📅: 3/28/2013

Retrospective Note 2020: Taken on our old porch swing that PERFECTLY fit the aesthetic of this alternate box art. This was the first time I had ever pre-ordered a game ever. I even took it a step further and pre-ordered the Ultimate Songbird Edition, a $200 collection which came with a good sized Songbird statue, among other things. I remember feeling slightly bad about spending all that money, but in the end, I was glad I did something for myself like that, especially with how big of a BioShock fan I was, and still am.

8. Swing

📅: 4/27/2013

Retrospective Note 2020: This isn’t the same swing as the one in the previous picture. This one has been around since I was child. I remember being afraid of swinging on it because wasps loved building nests underneath it. I wanted to swing on it so bad, but I was scared of being stung. I wonder if the people who own the house now still have that swing up…

📅: 5/2/2013

Retrospective Note 2020: This was a letter that I had meant to send to the someone I was dating at the time, but after the break up, it didn’t make sense to give it to them of course (letters were how we communicated when we couldn’t communicate). You can barely make out some of the words if you look at it upside down. It was probably about “no one can stop us from being together” kind of things. I still loved them, but it was time to let go. So, inspired by the “Paperman” short seen before Disney’s “Wreck-It Ralph”, I folded the letter into a paper plane, and sent it flying away. The last letter. Unread. Who knows where it ended up. I like to think I might run into it someday. It’s a silly thought, for it’s probably become one with the Earth by now, which that alone, is a beautiful thought.

10. Piano and a Lovely Evening

Retrospective Note 2020: Back when I spent a lot of time trying to learn the piano. If I remember correctly, that’s either sheet music for Elton John’s “Somewhere Out of the Blue”, or “Dear You (Cry)” from the Higurashi series. I wonder if I still have those pieces of sheet music…

Retrospective Note 2020: I remember wanting to do a series where I took pictures of different ponds. It never came to fruition, but it was a nice thought. Also, you can see the field I was talking about in this post here, before they built Lebanon Trail High School. Even with the new school built, you still get that sense of vastness that you sense here, for the building compliments the field quite nicely. That, and it reminds me of a certain game I love to play to this day.

Retrospective Note 2020: God I miss that field outside my apartment. It’s where I made my first friend after moving to Frisco back in 5th grade (Fall of 2004). I lived there for the rest of my growing up life, and if I could relive those days, my GOD I’d do it in a heartbeat. Crazy to think after all that moving around, I finally found a place I could call well… home. Frisco, TX. Where I grew up.

Retrospective Note 2020: Another movie poster shot. This time, from before I saw that biopic about Steve Jobs starring Ashton Kutcher as the famed founder of Apple Inc. I remember later that same year, another film about the man came out, with Michael Fassbender as Jobs. I’ve yet to see that one, but I’ll say in terms of “Jobs”, Ashton played Jobs powerfully, albeit exaggerated at times. Seems like Fassbender’s was more subtle, and depicts him as the man we all were used to seeing. Quiet. Smug. Reserved. Ashton’s Jobs played into that as well, but was more interested in diving into his darker side, including his fits of rage toward his employees and not taking responsibility for his first child, among other things. Not sure what direction “Steve Jobs” goes, but it does seem to have more of a focus on the business side of his life.

20. An Evening Reflection

📅: 8/18/2013

Retrospective Note 2020: You’ll notice I have a thing for evening walks. Especially in this area. This building just so happened to be built near my favorite pond that’s next to my old apartment. I’d walk out there every evening when I was able, and even now, I still favor that place. This building is a lovely addition to that field. The way the sunset reflects off it. Captivating.

21. City Silhouettes

🌎: Sheraton Dallas Hotel - Dallas, TX

📸: iPhone 4s

📅: 9/7/2013

Retrospective Note 2020: Taken at the top of a parking garage next to the Sheraton during AnimeFest 2013. Each time I go to that convention, the more I fall in love with Dallas. I’m not big on city life by any means, but I like looking at it from afar, and being in the Sheraton makes me feel safe, since I’m surrounded by people like me. It gives me a chance to enjoy Dallas, without being in the chaos and dangers of city life. I especially love being in my hotel room at night, and just taking in the buildings as I stand tall right there with them. My favorite view overlooks the Chase building as it stands next to the Univision station. Can’t get enough of it. Just talking about this makes me yearn for the next AnimeFest~ 💙

Retrospective Note 2022: Another view from our hotel room at AnimeFest 2013. Weird and slightly eerie to think that just to years from that point, I'd be visiting that hospital seen on the left side of this image. At the time, it was just another building, but after the events of 2015, it would mean so much more.
